Redlands and Lake Canjola

March 2025

A lovely place to relax and enjoy the beauty of no internet connection.

The Drive

A long drive, up Mt Ousley as I am still a little hesitant to drive up Macquarie Pass.  On the plus side Kaitlin got a lift to school and then up the mountain I went. Wherever I may roam it generally involves this lovely mountain.  Once upon a time it was my dash for freedom and independence moving to Sydney but mostly, it has been a wonderful sense of home coming when I come down the mountain. No matter how brilliant the trip!

Beyond the ordinary

Wind Turbines are so fascinating.  I stopped to admire them, they look so slow, but I imagine they are actually doing a great speed up there.  Bit dangerous for someone like me who wasn't watching the road properly when I spotted another one a little later. 📷🚐

Here at last

The last part of the trip was a drive along a dirt road, through the gates -remember to shut gates as this is a working farm- weathered by rain and wind there are a few ruts and dips, would be a blast in a 4wd 😂 at speed.  And then I saw the group of ladies from Rolling Solo parked up under the tree relaxing and having a chat.  Very welcoming sight, a few waves and now time for me to pick my spot to park up.  Still trying to get used to the fact I am one of the youngest and such a newbie to all of this, even though I have been camping my whole life.  Parked up and put my solar blanket out.  Learnt that full time solar is definitely needed for my van, will investigate getting that when I go home.  Love the fact that my van is still a work in progress, learning what I like and need along the way.

Lovely Days

Days are warm and sleeping in a closed van is a little uncomfortable, so I slept with the side door open.  Now that's a first for me!  Normally super security conscious but the only thing I had to worry about was making sure I had the fly screen up properly; the morning sunrise was so beautiful through the open door.  This place has such a feeling of security like a warm blanket wrapped around you saying "welcome to relax time"

Time to catch tonight's Entree

First you pull in the net

Then check if you have caught anything?  Watch out for the claws they are quick and sharp!!!

In the bucket go the nice big ones.

Gotcha!

Yabbies for entree tonight.

The shearing shed

Sheep shute,  down they go after they have been shaun.

Time for a wander.  The farm is so relaxing, you could stay near camp and do nothing but chat all day or take a gentle walk along the road to the river, go up the hill for a little bit more of a challenge.  The sheep in the home paddock and the crows (like 50 of them) all make it so zen.  Love this place

A real look at the trip driving.  Home to Redlands 258km supposed to take 3hours but with a morning tea break it took more like 4 1/2 hours.  I honestly don't know who works out the time for these google maps, you would have to speed and not take any breaks at all to make it on the time they say.  Redlands to Lake Conjola supposedly another 3 hour trip - I stopped at Goulburn for groceries so that made it more like 4 hours again.  nice drive this one more to see as it was going through towns and not just on the highway.

A few of the ladies decided to head down to Lake Conjola for a couple of days.  So, I thought why not join them.  Always love anywhere on the coast and Lake Conjola did not disappoint.

Lake Conjola

Note to self - check which van park people are staying in, there is more than one in Lake Conjola!

Travelling in the van means basically no set up.  Just open the door, plug into power and you're done.  Love this type of travel.

We live in one of the most beautiful places on earth.  I really need to do more trips.

Loving the life!

The Kangaroos are all through the park and quite content for people to walk up to them.  This night time photo shows the kangaroo that walked up to my door and had a look inside the van.

The site I was on had a lovely view directly to the lake so I could just sit back and relax.  Currently the lake is closed off to the ocean, hopefully it will open when the heavy rain comes in autumn.
